Suns Drop Second Straight in 11 Innings

Hagerstown Suns News Release
For the second consecutive game, the Hagerstown Suns (6-7) lost in 11 innings on Tuesday, this time by a score of 3-2 at the hands of the Lakewood BlueClaws (8-5).
Hagerstown got off to a poor start offensively, thanks in large part to the rehabbing Joe Blanton. Blanton is normally a starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, the BlueClaws Major League affiliate, but on Tuesday the righthander shut down the Suns for the first two innings of the game. Blanton was placed on the Major League disabled list on March 31st with a strained oblique.
The BlueClaws got on the scoreboard first, with single runs in the second and third innings against Suns starter Trevor Holder.
Hagerstown responded with tallies in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 2-2. The first Suns run came after DH JP Ramirez reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a single to right field by catcher Sandy Leon.
The tying run came after shortstop Francisco Soriano singled, stole both second and third base and eventually scored on a ground-out by third baseman Steven Souza.
Lakewood responded in the bottom of the sixth inning with another run off Holder, but the Suns evened up the score again with a run in the top of the seventh, as second baseman Jeff Kobernus scored from third on a wild pitch by Lakewood's Matt Way.
The score stayed tied at 3-3 until the bottom of the 11th inning when Lakewood third baseman Adam Buschini singled, stole second, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and eventually scored on an infield single by shortstop Jonathan Villar.
Dean Weaver (1-1) was the pitcher on the mound for the Suns in the 11th inning. Weaver, a right hander out of the University of Georgia, took the loss after pitching just two thirds of an inning.
Holder pitched well for the Suns, allowing three runs (two earned) in six innings of work. Wanel Vasquez and Shane Erb each worked two scoreless innings out of the Suns bullpen.
Lakewood reliever Josh Zeid picked up the win with two innings of scoreless work.
The Suns also lost Monday's game in 11 innings against the Delmarva Shorebids and have now played three consecutive exta-inning games.
The Suns and BlueClaws will play the second game of their four-game series at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
The next home game for Hagerstown will come against the Delmarva Shorebirds on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and gates will open at Municipal Stadium at 5:30.
