Jiovanni Mier's two-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth inning broke a 3-3 tie, and the Lexington Legends defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 5-3 Friday night in Kannapolis.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Miguel Arrendell singled and Ben Heath walked, putting runners at first and second. Kannapolis pitcher Andre Rienzo attempted to pick Arrendell off second, but threw into center field for an error. Arrendell went to third, and came home when center fielder Trayce Thompson overran the ball for a second error on the play.

The Intimidators tied it in the fifth when John Spatola was hit by a pitch, went to third on a single by Jake Oester and scored on a sacrifice fly by Miguel Gonzalez.

The Legends added two runs in the sixth. A single by Jimmy Paredes drove in Aaron Bray, who had started the inning with a walk, and Jake Goebbert's infield out scored Grant Hogue, who had singled earlier. Hogue had four of the Legends 14 hits. Lexington stranded 15 runners in the game.

Kannapolis scored once in the sixth to cut the lead to one, and tied the game in the eighth. They loaded the bases on a walk to Daniel Wagner and bunt singles by Tyler Saladino and Nick Ciolli. Kirk Clark relieved Colton Pitkin, and got a double-play grounder off the bat of Ian Gac as Wagner scored the tying run. Thompson grounded out to end the inning.

In the Legends' ninth, Bray led off with a walk. Renzo Tello attempted a sacrifice bunt, but Bray was forced out at second. Hogue followed with an infield hit, and when shortstop Juan Silverio threw past first, Tello went to third and Hogue to second. Jimmy Paredes grounded to second baseman Daniel Wagner, who threw Tello out at the plate for the second out. Mier then lined a hit into left center, scoring Hogue and Paredes.

Clark (4-2) got the win. Jacob Petricka (0-1) was the loser. The series concludes with a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday.
