HICKORY, NC - The Lakewood BlueClaws got on the board early and pulled away, defeating the Hickory Crawdads, 7-2, before a packed house of 4,444 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday night.

The BlueClaws (35-25, 77-53) picked up three quick runs (one earned) in the top of the first inning against Crawdads starter RHP Braden Tullis (6-2, 3.95 ERA). With CF Jiwan James at third and one out, 1B Jonathan Singleton singled in James for Lakewood's first run. After an error by SS Leury Garcia extended the inning with DH Jeremy Barnes reaching safely, 3B Stephen Batts promptly doubled to right field, scoring Singleton and Barnes to give the BlueClaws an early 3-0 lead. Hickory (30-29, 70-59) answered with two runs in the bottom of the second against Lakewood starter RHP Jonathan Pettibone (7-6, 3.55 ERA). With RF Jared Prince on at first and one out, 3B Ed Koncel tripled to right-center field to drive in Prince. CF Guillermo Pimentel then hit an infield single to the left side, plating Koncel from third and cutting the BlueClaws advantage to 3-2.

Pettibone settled down from that point on, preventing the 'Dads from scoring throughout the remainder of his six-inning start, before the BlueClaws bullpen kept the 'Dads at bay through the final three frames. Lakewood, however, extended its lead to 6-2 with three runs in the top of the fourth on a home run by RF Anthony Hewitt. They then tacked on one more final run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Barnes, accounting for the final score of 7-2.

Tullis surrendered seven runs (five earned) on eight hits while fanning three in five innings to take the loss. RHP Johan Yan, RHP Ovispo De Los Santos, and LHP Joseph Ortiz combined to deal the final four scoreless frames of relief for Hickory. Pettibone received the win for Lakewood.
