Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - For the third time in the last five years, the Augusta GreenJackets are set to surpass a franchise record for fan attendance. With sellout crowds expected on both nights of the upcoming Fan Appreciation Weekend, the team should surpass their previous record attendance of 200,222 by Saturday night's home finale.
The new record means many things, but perhaps most importantly it means more people are coming out to the ballpark than ever before in Augusta.
"We're glad to see attendance numbers at the ballpark because it allows us to give our sponsors a return on their investment." said GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown. "That allows us to give full value to those partnerships with our loyal sponsors and they know we can deliver for them on a yearly basis. We couldn't do that without great fan support."
The GreenJackets' popular theme nights, giveaways and special events throughout the season created many reasons for fans to come out to the ballpark in 2010. With a roster that boasted four midseason All-Stars, there was no shortage of great baseball at Lake Olmstead Stadium this season.
"We couldn't do what we do without our fans and we thank them for supporting us this season in such large numbers." Brown said. "It's nice to see that fans of all ages still recognize the incredible value they get when they come to a GreenJackets game and that we're still the best entertainment value in the area."
With two games left, the GreenJackets expect big crowds on both nights of their Fan Appreciation Weekend. Tonight's game features a mystery giveaway to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. Saturday's home finale will end with the final Fireworks Extravaganza of the 2010 season.
Coming into play today, the GreenJackets have the best overall record in the Southern Division with a 73-55 mark and have been in contention for a playoff berth during most of the season.
The GreenJackets open Fan Appreciation weekend tonight at 7:05 p.m. as they host the West Virginia Power. Single-game tickets for either of the last two home games can currently be obtained by calling 706-922-WINS or online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
