HICKORY, NC - The BlueClaws took an early lead Friday night and never looked back, beating the Hickory Crawdads 7-2.

The win clinches the BlueClaws' tenth straight winning half and bumps their lead over third-place Hickory (30-29) to 4.5 games.

Lakewood (35-25) again took the early edge much as they did on Thursday. Again, it was Stephen Batts delivering the big blow.

Jiwan James started the first with a base hit, went to second on a groundout, and stole third before Jonathan Singleton brought him home with a base knock.

With two on and two outs Stephen Batts hit a two-run double to push the lead to 3-0. Fittingly, it was Batts who brought in two in the first inning the day before with a single.

Much as they did on Thursday, Hickory battled right back. Edward Koncel bashed an RBI triple off Jonathan Pettibone (7-6) in the bottom of the second, and Guillermo Pimentel followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to one.

Pettibone would work in and out of trouble several more times, but allowed just the two runs on six hits in six innings. He has picked up the win in three of his last four starts.

The Claws pulled away in the fourth. With one out, Singleton on second and Sebastian Valle on first, Anthony Hewitt hit his second homer in as many days to break open a 6-2 Lakewood lead. It was Hewitt's tenth long ball of the season.

The BlueClaws added another run in the seventh on a Jeremy Barnes sacrifice-fly.

The series wraps up Saturday at 7:00 pm. RHP Julio Rodriguez goes up against Hickory LHP Miguel de los Santos.
