Suns Comeback from Down Four to Win 10-7

The Hagerstown Suns (26-35, 62-69) completed their biggest comeback victory of the season, overcoming a four-run deficit to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds (25-36, 57-74) 10-7 in front of the 15th sellout crowd of the season.

The Shorebirds came out firing in the first frame, scoring three runs off Suns starter Evan Bronson (4-2), highlighted by a two-run double by Omar Casamayor to score Levi Carolus and Austin Rauch.

Delmarva scored a fourth run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to left by T.J. Baxter to score Garabez Rosa.

Hagerstown responded in the bottom half of the second inning. After a Brett Newsome leadoff walk, Justino Cuevas hit his second home run of the season to cut Delmarva's lead in half. After Mills Rogers flew out, the Suns hit three consecutive singles, ending with a Eury Perez RBI single to score Adrian Nieto. With runners on the corners, Randolph Oduber reached on an error by Shorebirds starter Pat Kantakevich (0-8), allowing Marcus Jones to score from third. Next batter, Adrian Sanchez grounded out to second, scoring Perez to give Hagerstown a 5-4 lead.

Delmarva took back the lead in the top of the fifth. With Rauch at the plate, a wild pitch allowed Trent Mummey to score from third to tie the game. Rauch proceeded to hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Tyler Kelly from third, putting the Shorebirds up 6-5.

The bottom of the fifth saw Hagerstown take the lead for good in the contest. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Mills Rogers hit a three-run triple into left center, scoring J.P. Ramirez, Brett Newsome and Cuevas. Nieto followed with a ground ball single to right to score Rogers, ending the scoring with a 9-6 advantage to the Suns.

Each side exchanged another run, the Suns in the eighth and the Shorebirds in the ninth, as Hagerstown held on for the 10-7 win.

Bronson got the win, throwing six innings with six runs allowed. Kyle Morrison received his first save of the season after throwing the final three innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out five.

Kantakevich received the loss after allowing nine runs, seven of them earned, in five innings.

The Suns and Shorebirds will return to Municipal Stadium for the final home game in Hagerstown of the 2010 season on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m.
