Fans are invited to come early to Applebee's Park Tuesday, August 11 for the Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest. The Fun Fest will open at 4 p.m., three hours before the Lexington Legends play the Asheville Tourists. There is no charge for admission to Fun Fest or for any of its more than 20 attractions.

Fun Fest offers batting and pitching cages, bungee runs, super slides, bounce houses, a "rookie zone," the Great Clips/Best Buy mobile video game arcade, a historic minor league baseball museum and many more.

The Fun Fest also offers an opportunity to create a special memory. Fans can put their own photos on free souvenir Days Inn baseball cards, or on a Sports Illustrated for Kids magazine cover.

The Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest, now in its sixth year, is a celebration of baseball that will visit nearly 50 minor league ballparks in 2009. The event, created and produced by Entertainment Sports International, will encompass 4,000 square feet. It will be set up just outside the gates at Applebee's Park.

"The minor leagues offer fans a great baseball experience," said Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, who serves as the event's national spokesperson. "From exceptional value to a safe, family environment, fans get to see competitive professional baseball with non-stop entertainment. The Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest extends that excitement before the game with an event truly unique to minor league ballparks."

Since its origin in 2004, the Fun Fest tour has been visited by more than 1.5 million fans at more than 250 appearances.
