Hagerstown Suns News Release
SALISBURY, MD - Hagerstown Suns starting pitcher Juan Jaime took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the Suns 6-2 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday.
Jaime, a hard-throwing right hander, struck out eight batters and surrendered just one hit, a bunt single by Kyle Hudson to lead off the sixth inning. Jaime walked one batter and hit one batter as well, while regularly touching 98-mph en route to his second victory of the season.
The offense for the Suns got major contributions from the bottom half of the lineup. In fact, five of the six runs scored by Hagerstown came from the six through nine hitters in the order.
Hagerstown took a two run lead on two hits and an error in the top of the third inning, and extended the lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the top of the fourth.
After the Suns stretched the lead to 5-0 when Steven Souza scored on a fielder's choice hit by Michael Guerrero.
The final run for Hagerstown came in the top of the ninth inning when Charlie Fermaint hit an inside-the-park home run on a line drive to center field. It was Fermaint's fourth home run of the season, and the Suns' first inside-the-park homer of the year as a team.
The two Delmarva runs came on a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh by Jacob Julius off reliever Robinson Fabian.
Patrick Arnold earned the save with two scoreless innings of work for Hagerstown.
The five-game series between the Suns and Shorebirds will finish on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The series is currently tied at 2-2.
