Behind a 15-hit attack, the Lexington Legends took the opener of a four-game series with the Hagerstown Suns 9-4 Monday night in Hagerstown. The Legends, who have won five of their last six games, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Jake Goebbert singled to right field, moved to third base on a double by Kody Hinze, and scored on Aaron Bray's infield grounder. Rene Garcia's sacrifice fly brought in Hinze from third for the second run. Lexington added a run in the third on an RBI single by Jimmy Paredes.

The Suns cut the lead to one in the bottom of the third when J.P. Ramirez hit a two-run homer after Eury Perez had reached base on a bunt single. It was Ramirez' 11th home run of the year.

The score remained 3-2 until the Legends scored four times in the sixth inning. Goebbert led off with a walk, but was forced at second base on Hinze's grounder. Bray followed with a single, moving Hinze to second. After Shane Erb relieved starter Paul Demny for Hagerstown, Jonathan Meyer singled to load the bases. Garcia also singled, scoring Hinze from third. Kemp walked to force in another run, and Hogue lined a two-run single to right to score Meyer and Garcia, giving the Legends a 7-2 lead. Hagerstown scored a run in the seventh on a triple by Rick Hague and a sacrifice fly by Ramirez. They added a run with two outs in the eighth when Marcus Jones was hit by a pitch and Justino Cuevas tripled to left field, making the score 7-4.

The Legends answered with two runs in the top of the ninth. Paredes singled, stole second, and scored on a double by Hinze. The RBI was the 77th of the season for Hinze, who leads the South Atlantic League. Garcia singled to score Hinze, giving the Legends their final margin. Garcia had three RBI in the game.

Lexington starter Jose Cisnero (6-5) worked the first five innings to get the win. Demny (6-4) was the losing pitcher.

The series continues Tuesday night in Hagerstown. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
