Hagerstown Suns News Release
The Hagerstown Suns are partnering with Children in Need, Inc. to make sure Washington County Public Schools and their students are stocked up with supplies for another school year. Any fan who donates an item to the Suns' first-ever school supply drive during the month of August will be rewarded with a free General Admission ticket to a Suns game of their choosing, as well as a coupon for 50% off on merchandise at the Suns' team store.
"The Suns are always on the lookout for ways to support the local community," Suns' President & General Manager Bob Flannery said. "Partnering with Children in Need will allow us to make a significant impact on the children of Washington County by ensuring that they are prepared for another vital year of education."
Children in Need, Inc. is a non-profit organization and participating agency of the United Way, which works to keep disadvantaged children in school all the way through their high school graduation, and hopefully into college. Each year, Children in Need works with Washington County Public Schools and their students by providing school supplies and other essential items throughout the year.
"We have been overwhelmed by the support we've received from the local community thus far, and we want to thank the Suns for finding another way we can benefit from the generosity of the people of this area," said Anne Martin, executive director of Children in Need. "It's great that the Suns are giving Hagerstown something positive to rally around going into another school year."
Suns fans can bring their school supply donations to the Municipal Stadium ticket office, where each donor will be able to choose from a list of August Suns games in order to claim their free ticket. Fans can choose from the Suns' games against the Lexington Legends from August 2 through August 4; the Suns' Friday, August 13 game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers that features post-game fireworks; games on August 15 and 16 against Greensboro or August 21 through August 25 against the Lakewood BlueClaws; or the penultimate game of the Suns' season against the Delmarva Shorebirds, which will also feature fireworks after the game.
All donations to the school supply drive must be made at least one day in advance of the game for which the fan is seeking to receive a free ticket. There is a limit of one free General Admission ticket per donor.
Items suggested by Children in Need include backpacks, three-ring notebooks, reams of paper, and packages of pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers or highlighters. Donations that include multiple items are greatly appreciated. The Suns encourage fans to purchase their school supply donations from Staples, which is a generous donor to Children in Need.
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available by calling the Suns at 301-791-6266. Visit the Suns on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com. The Suns are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties.
