Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 4-1 Monday night in front o f 2,070 fans at State Mutual Stadium. Braves starter, Brett DeVall pitched Rome's first complete game of the season, going nine innings and giving up one run on six hits with four strike outs. With the win, the Braves move to 17-20 in the second half.

The Braves took the lead with two runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Phil Gosselin led off with a walk followed by a double from Todd Cunningham. Gosselin and Cunningham would score on a Joe Leonard two RBI double for the 2-0 lead.

Rome added two more runs in the third when Leonard singled to lead off the inning. Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg (2) followed with a two run home run to extend the lead to 4-0.

Savannah would put up a run in the ninth inning after Cesar Puello doubled, moved to third on a groundout by Travis Ozga then scored on a Jet Butler groundout to spoil the shutout. The Braves held on for the 4-1 victory.

Brett DeVall (7-7) picks up the win for Rome while Darin Gorski (4-6) of Savannah gets the loss.

Roster Move: Before the game, the Braves have placed pitcher Julio Surinach on the restricted list.
