July 18, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release
Back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning by Emilio King and Ben Orloff helped the Lexington Legends come from behind for an 8-6 win over the Hagerstown Suns Monday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Hagerstown tooke a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With two out, Sean Nicol walked, stole second, and scored on Mills Rogers' double to center field. The Legends tied the game in their half of the second when Telvin Nash led off with his eighth home run of the season.
Lexington added two more runs in the third. Delino DeShields Jr. led off with a single, stole second and scored on a one-out single by Mike Kvasnicka. After Kvasnicka stole second, walks to Nash and Ben Heath loaded the bases. Emilio King grounded into a force play at second but beat the relay to first as Kvasnicka scored to give the Legends a 3-1 lead.
The Legends added two more runs in the fourth. Orloff and Bryce Lane started the inning with back-to-back singles, and Roberto Pena sacrificed the runners to second and third. DeShields' sacrifice fly to center scored Orloff, and Austin's single brought home Lane and made the score 5-1.
The Suns erased that lead in the fifth. Michael Taylor led off with a home run. Blake Kelso and Adrian Sanchez singled, and Kevin Keyes walked to load the bases. After Jason Chowning relieved Legends' starter Alex Sogard, Jason Martinson hit a grand slam off the scoreboard in right center field, giving the Suns a 6-5 advantage.
Lexington's seventh-inning rally began with two outs and the bases empty.
Heath walked, and King homered to right field, putting the Legends back in front 7-6. Orloff followed with his first home run of the year to give the Legends their final margin.
Chowning (3-2) picked up the win in relief. Wilson Eusebio (0-5), the third of four pitchers used by Hagerstown, was handed the loss. David Martinez earned his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Legends will travel to Charleston, South Carolina for a three-game series beginning on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
