
Crawdads Sweep Shorebirds with 5-0 Shutout

SALISBURY, MD - The Hickory Crawdads, 1st-Half Northern Division Champions, completed the series sweep with a 5-0 shutout of the Delmarva Shorebirds, before 2,797 fans at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Monday night. The Crawdads won six of the seven games on the road trip and are in first place in the 2nd Half Northern Division standings.
The Crawdads (57-36, 17-8) struck right away with a run in the top of the first inning against RHP Scott Copeland (L, 5-9). With one out, 2B Odubel Herrera reached on a fielding error by 1B Riley Hornback, and then quickly stole his way to second base. Herrera advanced to third on a groundout, and came home the final ninety feet on an RBI single by 1B Andrew Clark, the South Atlantic League Player of the Week, making it 1-0.
Hickory kept swinging away for four more runs in the top of the fourth against Delmarva (45-50, 10-15). The rally started with a solo home run from 3B Christian Villanueva, doubling the 'Dads lead to 2-0 with one out in the frame. CF Jake Skole followed with a single and stole second base. After LF Alejandro Selen singled to put runners at the corners, C Kellin Deglan worked a walk to load the bases. One out later, SS Jurickson Profar unloaded the bases with a three-run double to the right field corner, lifting Hickory further in front, 5-0. Profar hit a season-high three doubles and collected four hits in the game.
RHP Roman Mendez (W, 8-1) started the shutout for the Crawdads and tossed six scoreless innings, striking out eight batters, including all three in the fourth inning. RHP Andrew Doyle tossed two scoreless frames of relief, before RHP Francisco Mendoza closed the 5-0 victory for Hickory with a scoreless ninth.

The Crawdads will return home on Wed., July 20 to kick off a seven-game homestand with Redneck Night against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. First Pitch is at 7 p.m., gates open at 6 p.m.
