
Thompon, Black Break out Bats to Beat BlueClaws

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 18,, 2011) -- Center fielder Trayce Thompson matched a season-high with four RBI on a pair of doubles as the Kannapolis Intimidators overpowered the Lakewood BlueClaws, 7-3, on Monday at Fieldcrest Cannon Staidum. The Intimidators earned a series win, 2-1, and claimed the season-series, 6-4, over the BlueClaws for the first time since 2003.
Thompson broke a 2-2 tied in the third inning with his second two-run double of the game. Dan Black followed with a double of his own to trade places with Thompson for a 5-2 Intimidators advantage. Black added a solo home run (13) to right field in the fifth inning off reliever Tyler Knigge.
Spencer Arroyo worked seven strong innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and a walk to earn the win. Arroyo (7-5) has pitched at least seven innings in his last four outings and seven of his last eight starts. Terance Marin worked the eighth and ninth for Kannapolis.
BlueClaws starter Ervis Manzanillo (7-5) lasted three innings, his shortest outing since June 5, allowing five runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in a losing effort.
Carlos Sanchez and Marcus Semien singled to lead off the first inning, and Thompson doubled them home for 2-0 Intimidators lead.
Lakewood knotted up the game with two runs in the top of the third, getting an RBI-ground ball from Edgar Duran and a Geancarlo Mendez RBI- single.
