Suns Darkened 8-6 After Game Three Finale in Lexington

Lexington, KY- In the game three finale on Monday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, the Hagerstown Suns (53-41, 13-11) lost 8-6 amidst a slugfest with the Lexington Legends (45-50, 10-15) in the rubber match.

Suns LHP Robbie Ray, who did not receive a decision, went 2.1 innings and surrendered three earned runs on three hits and four walks, while fanning five.

The Suns jumped on the board in the 2nd inning with an RBI double to deep center field off the bat of 1B Mills Rogers that scored LF Sean Nicol, who walked and stole second base to get into scoring position.

Lexington countered in the 2nd stanza with a solo home run onto the party patio in right field off the bat of 1B Telvin Nash, his 8th four-bagger of the season.

Lexington LHP Chris Sogard, who also did not factor into the decision, tossed 4.1 innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts on his card.

The Legends plated two runs in both the 3rd and the 4th frames. An RBI single to left field by 3B Mike Kvasnicka in which 2B Delino DeShields, Jr. appeared to be thrown out by Nicol at the provided the second run of the game for Lexington. An RBI fielder's choice by RF Emilio King brought home Kvasnicka. An inning later, DeShields, Jr. lofted an RBI sacrifice fly to deep center scoring SS Ben Orloff, who singled, CF Jay Austin knocked an RBI a single up the middle to score LF Bryce Lane, who singled through the left side to get aboard.

Down 5-1 in the 5th inning, Suns RF Michael Taylor crushed a line drive home run off the left center field out-of-town scoreboard, and SS Jason Martinson blasted a right center field grand slam, his eleventh deep fly of the campaign, to catapult Hagerstown on top 6-5.

However, Hagerstown RHP Wilson Eusebio (0-5), the losing pitcher, after pitching two scoreless frames, allowed three runs in the 7th inning on back-to-back home runs on consecutive pitches, a two-run shot over the right field wall by King, his fifth of the season, and a solo lazer beam by Orloff over the left center field wall, his first of the year to give the Legends a two run advantage.

RHP Jason Chowning (3-2), the winning pitcher of record, who served up the grand salami to Martinson, pitched 2.2 innings and allowed one earned run on two base hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Hagerstown will host Augusta in four game beginning Wednesday after an off day. Game One will begin with a 6:50pm Break Away 2 Sports Lounge Pre-game Show on WJEJ AM 1240 leading up to a 7:05pm first pitch. The pitching matchup is to be determined.
