Lakewood Drops Series Finale 7-3

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Lakewood BlueClaws fell to the Kannapolis Intimidators 7-3 on Monday. The BlueClaws were trying to win the 3 game series and finish up their 7 game road trip with a winning record as well, but they came up short on Monday. The BlueClaws are off on Tuesday, and will head back to Lakewood to open a 7 game home stand beginning Wednesday.

Kannapolis got the Lakewood SP Ervis Manzanillo early scoring 5 times in 3 innings off the lefty, and they never looked back. Trayce Thompson was 2-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's, and Dan Black was 2-4 as well with a double and his 13th HR of the year. Manzanillo lasted just 3 innings allowing 7 hits and 5 runs and got the loss to fall to 7-5. Tyler Knigge and Chase Johnson were good out the bullpen for the BlueClaws with Knigge throwing 3 innings of 2 hit ball and Chase Johnson pitching the 7th and 8th innings. Each reliever allowed just 1 run apiece. Kannapolis collected 12 hits in the game.

Lakewood had 10 hits in the game themselves with Zach Collier, Miguel Alvarez, and Cameron Rupp all chipping in with 2 base knocks. Collier was 2-3 with a walk while Alvarez was 2-4 with 2 runs scored. Cameron Rupp continues to crush the ball for Lakewood going 2-4 with a run scored on Monday. Rupp has now hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games and is 23-61 over that stretch. Domingo Santana hit his 3rd triple of the year in the game as well. Kannapolis SP Spencer Arroyo allowed 2 runs over 7 innings and won to improve to 7-5 in 2011.

After the off day on Tuesday, Lakewood will welcome in the Greenville Drive for a 3 game series beginning on Wednesday. RHP David Buchanan will go for win number 10 for Lakewood, and Kannapolis will start RHP Keith Couch. First Pitch is scheduled for 11:05 am on Wednesday.

Notes: BlueClaws LHP Jesse Biddle was named SAL Pitcher of the Week after he threw 7 shutout innings and got the win against Greenville on Friday. This is the 1st time Biddle has received this honor, and he is the 3rd BlueClaw to be names SAL Pitcher of the Week this season. Garett Claypool won it earlier this year, and Lisalberto Bonilla won it just last week.
