(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Lexington Legends' outfielder Mike Kvasnicka has been named South Atlantic League Player of the Week for July 16-22, SAL President Eric Krupa announced today (Monday).

For the period, Kvasnicka played in six games and had 10 hits in 26 at-bats for an average of .385. He hit four home runs and batted in 15 runs. He also scored five runs, and his on-base percentage for the week was .393.

In the Legends' 13-7 win at Greenville Sunday, July 22, Kvasnicka hit a grand slam and a three-run homer. He homered from each side of the plate in the same game for the second time this season. He also accomplished that feat on June 10 at Greensboro.

"Mike has been a very important part of the Legends' success," said Legends' General Manager Seth Poteat. "He certainly had a week that was worthy of recognition. We appreciate all he does for the Legends on and off the field."

Kvasnicka, 23, a native of Minnesota and a hockey and baseball star in high school, was a first round choice of the Houston Astros in the June 2010 draft. He played in college at the University of Minnesota, where he and Legends' outfielder Justin Gominsky were teammates.

Kvasnicka and the Legends open a seven-game homestand tonight at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Legends take on Augusta for four games and Hagerstown for three. Game time each night is 7:05 p.m., except for the Sunday game, which begins at 1:35 p.m.

The Legends have won 10 of their last 12 games and are three games behind Charleston in the South Atlantic League Southern Division standings.
