Asheville Tourists News Release

Alex Gillingham was saddled with a tough luck loss Monday night as the Greenville Drive beat the Asheville Tourists 5-0. The Tourists starting pitcher lasted eight innings and allowed only run on three hits. The run scored was unearned.

The Drive went to work in the top of the ninth inning off Jefri Hernandez. They clubbed five hits and scored four runs against the Tourists reliever, breaking the game open and nullifying any chance at a dramatic finish.

Greenville's starting pitcher, Mike McCarthy, was equally as effective. McCarthy tossed 5.2 innings of no-hit baseball. The only hit he allowed was an infield single to Rivera.

The lone run Gillingham allowed came on an RBI groundout from Nick Natoli, plating Henry Ramos; who reach on an error earlier in the inning.

In the ninth, Blake Swihart led off with a Home Run and with two outs the hit parade began. When the inning was all said and done, Greenville led 5-0 and they held on to complete the shutout in the bottom of the ninth.

Asheville managed just three hits in the game. The Tourists have now lost three straight and four of their last five overall.
