(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Mike Kvasnicka homered and drove in three runs as the Lexington Legends defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 6-2 on Monday night. The homer was Kvasnicka's third in his past two games and fifth in his last seven games. He was named South Atlantic League Player of the Week for July 16-22.

The Legends opened the scoring in the second. Matt Duffy led off with a single, advanced to second on a ground out by Brandon Meredith and scored when Justin Gominsky singled to left field.

The GreenJackets claimed the lead in the fourth on a two-run homer by Ben Thomas, but Kvasnicka and the Legends responded quickly. With one out, Duffy doubled and Kvasnicka launched his 15th home run of the year over the wall in left field, giving the Legends a 3-2 lead.

The Legends added another run in the fifth. With two out, Delino DeShields Jr. walked. An error by Augusta first baseman Thomas on a failed pickoff attempt allowed DeShields to move to second base, from where he scored on Nolan Fontana's double to right field.

Lexington's Luis Alvarez extended the lead to 5-2 in the seventh with a solo home run over the left field bleachers.

The Legends got their final run in the eighth on back to back doubles by Meredith and Kvasnicka.

Lexington starter Luis Ordosgoitti (3-3) got the victory. He went seven innings, allowing two runs and striking out seven batters. Murilo Gouvea pitched the eighth and ninth innings to earn his third save of the season.

Augusta starter Edwin Escobar (4-6) allowed four runs over six innings and was handed the loss.

The Legends and GreenJackets play game two of their four game series on Tuesday night. First pitch at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
