Lexington Legends News Release

Five errors, including four in the last two innings, doomed the Lexington Legends as the Hickory Crawdads came from behind to win 8-4 at Applebee's Park Thursday night.

Lexington built an early 4-0 lead, but Hickory came back with single runs in the fourth and sixth to cut the margin in half. Ed Koncel's solo home run in the seventh inning brought the Crawdads to within a run at 4-3.

Hickory captured the lead in the eighth. Andres James led off with a double. Jared Bolden sacrificed him to third, and Bolden reached first safely when first baseman Michael Diaz dropped the throw. James attempted to score on the play, but was thrown out at the plate by Diaz. Vinny DiFazio followed with a double to score Bolden, tying the game at 4-4. DiFazio went to third on an infield out, and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Aja Barto.

In the top of the ninth, Mike Hollander led off with a single. On Koncel's sacrifice bunt, second baseman Albert Cartwright threw past first base down the right field line for an error, and Hollander came around to score. Koncel continued to third base, and then scored on right fielder Russell Dixon's throwing error to make the score 7-4.

Leury Garcia bunted, and pitcher Kyle Godfrey's throw was wide of first for the third error of the inning. Garcia stole second and came home on a base hit by Bolden to close out the scoring.

The Legends took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by catcher Federico Hernandez. Lexington added two more in the bottom of the third on a walk to Eric Suttle, a triple by Brandon Wikoff and a single by Brian Pellegrini.

Jorge Quintero (2-0) picked up the win in relief. Lexington reliever Kyle Godfrey (1-3) took the loss. The four-game series concludes Friday night at Applebee's Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
