Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws have turned around their recent run of results with a three-game sweep of the Hagerstown Suns on the road with a comfortable 7-2 win on Thursday night.

The BlueClaws (30-27), have had the Suns (18-39) number all season long to the tune of a 14-4 record with three more to play next week against the affiliates of the Washington Nationals.

BlueClaws pitching has been dominating against the Suns and Trevor May's performance was no different. The righty went five innings, earning his third win of the year as he allowed one run. May (3-1) struggled a little with his control, walking six, but worked out with runners on base.

The BlueClaws took the lead, and did so for good in the first inning as they put up four runs on the Sun's starter AJ Morris. Anthony Gose reached on an error, one of three on the game for the Suns, stole second and scored on a single by Travis d'Arnaud. The BlueClaws then added three more, an RBI-single by Travis Mattair, and a two-RBI single by Vladimir De Los Santos and the game was blown open early.

Morris (0-3) lasted just two outs into the fourth allowing seven runs, two earned on eight hits. All four first inning runs were unearned.

The BlueClaws would then add a run in the third and two more in the fourth to build a 7-1 lead as the Suns scored their lone run in the bottom half of the first.

Freddy Ballestas was good in relief for the BlueClaws, going two scoreless before giving way to Jordan Ellis. Ellis worked the eighth and allowed a run as he threw two wild pitches in a row. He pitched the ninth and ran into some control issues but finished the game.

The BlueClaws walked a season high ten batters on the night.

Mattair had a three-hit game, as well as d'Arnaud as the BlueClaws belted out 13 hits on the night.

The game was delayed for roughly 25 minutes due to a power outage to the stadium lights.

After the sweep, the BlueClaws and their 36-22 road record will continue their six-game road trip with three games against the Lake County Captains. On Friday at 7:05 pm, the BlueClaws will send Matthew Way (2-1) to the mound and he will be opposed by righty Danny Salazar (5-6).
