Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - Daniel Wagner practically grew up in the shadow of Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. After getting the call to join the Intimidators on Tuesday, Wagner will now get the chance to star for his hometown team.
Wagner, a former South Rowan High School standout, was added to the Kannapolis roster this week while the team was in Greenville, making the trek from Advanced Rookie Bristol. The left-handed hitting second baseman had started his professional career in the Appalachian League after being selected by the White Sox in the 16th round of the 2009 draft.
"It is kind of surreal to join Kannapolis, being from here," Wagner said. "I could see the fireworks from my backyard growing up."
Wagner spent his three-year college career at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, hitting over .300 each season with the Bruins. Wagner hit .323 his junior season, smashing ten home runs and driving in a team-best 57 RBIs.
A 2006 graduate of South Rowan High School, Wagner led the team in batting average, stolen bases and home runs in his senior season.
Wagner got his pro career off to a great start with the White Sox, hitting .258 with a home run and 26 RBIs in 56 games with Bristol.
And while there are just a handful of games remaining in the regular season, Wagner is still thrilled to be coming home to play ball.
"I used to go the Piedmont Boll Weevils games when I was a young kid," Wagner said. "It was the baseball I grew up on."
The Intimidators will return to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Tuesday, September 1 to finish out the regular season with a seven-game homestand. Tickets each of the final games are available online at IntimidatorsBaseball.com, over the phone at (704) 932-3267 or at the Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium ticket office. Please call the Intimidators for more information on the discounts and benefits of group tickets.
