Lexington Legends News Release
Charleston, WV -- West Virginia started the scoring with two blasts early but won the game on a slow roller that didn't leave the infield late. The Power brought home the winning run on an infield single from Curt Rindal with the bases loaded against Luis Pardo in the ninth inning to win 3-2 over the Lexington Legends.
The West Virginia Power scored the first two runs of the game in the fifth inning. Zealous Wheeler and Eric Fryer connected for consecutive solo home runs to plate the only two runs against Lexington Starting pitcher Jake Leonhardt. Leonhardt lasted five innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks. Leonhardt struck out two batters.
Lexington tied the game with two outs in the ninth inning. Brian Pellegrini walked and stole second base. Russell Dixon struck out swinging before Steve Brown hit his second home run in two games to tie the ball game at two. The two runs came off reliever Rob Bryson.
West Virginia starting pitcher Chris Cody shut out the Legends for seven innings. He allowed only three Legends to reach base on two hits and a walk. He also struck out six batters in the game.
Lexington reliever Luis Pardo made his Legends debut with three and one-third innings of one-run ball in relief of Leonhardt. Pardo limited the Power to three hits through his first three innings before imploding in the ninth.
Pardo loaded the bases in the ninth without retiring a West Virginia batter. He struck out Eric Fryer before Rindal hit a slow roller that stopped in no-man's land between third baseman Matthew Cusick and Pardo. Pinch runner Matt Cline raced home to give the Power the walk-off win.
The Legends loss ended their three-game winning streak. Pardo fell to 0-1 as a Legend and Rob Bryson earned the win despite blowing the save in relief of Cody. The two teams meet in game two of the series Tuesday at 10:35 a.m.
