Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

Kannapolis, N.C. - Just 12 hours after taking game one from Kannapolis, the Greensboro Grasshoppers returned to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium with brooms in hand.

Greensboro completed the quick two-game series Tuesday morning with an 11-5 routing of the Intimidators, who's five-game losing skid lacks any resemblance of their name-sake.

Jameson Smith led the way for the Grasshoppers with another career performance. Smith went 3-for-4 from the plate to match a career-high hits effort he previously set on May 28. He also scored twice and drove in career-high, three runs.

He wasn't the only hot-hitter for the Hoppers though.

Four others, including Hunter Mense, Ryan Anetsberger, Tom Hickman and Ozzie Martinez also had multiple-hit performances; each had two hits in the morning session.

For Anetsberger it was his first appearance off the disabled list and he proved he was ready to be back. The Wheaton, Ill., native went 2-for-4 and scored a career-best four times to match a Greensboro season-high.

After four runs in the second inning and three more in the third, the Hoppers cruised through the rest of the game with single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings before putting up a pair in the seventh.

On the mound, Greensboro's lone southpaw garnered his first victory of the season after five inning of work in which he surrendered three Kannapolis runs. He had performed well in his previous three outings, but a lack of run support in those outings put his record in the red.

The bullpen, which has now allowed an earned run in two straight games after not allowing one earned run in its previous 32 consecutive innings, held on as A.J. Battisto pitched two hitless innings before Eric Basurto surrendered the Intimidators final two runs in the eight. Steven Cishek finished the game by striking out two of the four batters he faced.

Greensboro's parade of runs included a home run by Bryan Petersen. It served dual purpose for the outfielder as Petersen, now with nine round-trippers on the season, extended Greensboro's home run hitting streak to nine games and his personal hitting streak to 12 games. Petersen's current 12-game hit streak is the longest by a Hopper this season and the third longest active streak in the South Atlantic League.

The Hoppers will next head to Lexington for a hat trick of games against the Legends. Greensboro will look to extend its win streak to three Wednesday in the series opener against Lexington set to begin at 7:00 p.m. RHP Stuart Alexander (4-5, 4.98) will look to snap a three-game losing skid and pick up his first win since May 2; the Legends are slated to send LHP Jeff Icenogle (1-3, 3.98) to the hill.
