
Leach Named AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer for March

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that defenseman Joey Leach was honored by the ECHL as the league's AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer for the month of March. Leach led the league with a plus-minus rating of +13 last month and is currently second in the ECHL with a mark of +35.
Leach finished the month with four points (two goals, two assists), helping lead South Carolina to an 8-0-2-1 record in March. Leach posted an even or better rating in all 11 games during the month including a +4 on March 4 in a 4-2 win at Atlanta. He posted a +2 rating twice - March 11 and March 12 versus Atlanta.
In 53 games this year with South Carolina, Leach has registered 15 points (six goals, nine assists) to go along with 109 penalty minutes. He leads all defensemen with a +35 rating. He has also appeared in six games with South Carolina's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears, posting three assists.
Originally a third round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2010, Leach, a Wadena, Saskatchewan native, is in his third professional season after a five-year junior hockey career for the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He has played in 164 ECHL games with Bakersfield, Fort Wayne and South Carolina, registering 42 points.
Leach and the Stingrays host Orlando this weekend. Tonight, it's a Drawstring Bag Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans on SAIC/USO Night at 7:05 p.m. versus Orlando.
