Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced rookie defenseman Greg Amlong has been signed to a Standard Players Contract (SPC). In addition, defenseman Chris Leone has been signed to an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO). Both are expected to make their professional debuts this weekend against Kalamazoo.
Amlong, 24, spent each of the last two seasons at the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) and recorded 24 points (7g, 17a) in 62 games. He led all Tigers defensemen in assists (14) earlier this season and was tied for first among blue-liners in points (21). A native of O'Fallon, Missouri, Amlong also spent two seasons at the University of Massachusetts - Lowell from 2012-14. He collected 12 points (1g, 11a) in 43 contests and played alongside Swamp Rabbits defenseman Joe Houk both years.
Prior to his collegiate career, the 6'2, 209-pound skater played two seasons at the junior level with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the United States Hockey League (USHL) from 2010-12. He notched 38 points (10g, 28a) in 99 games and served as an alternate captain during his second and final season.
Leone, 24, spent each of the last four seasons at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan, setting career highs in goals (11), assists (16), points (27) and penalty minutes (25) as a senior earlier this year. Overall, Leone amassed 71 points (24g, 47a) in 109 contests at the NCAA Division III level.
A native of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, Leone played three seasons of junior hockey in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) from 2009-12, earning 65 points (21g, 44a) in 121 games. Ironically, he captained the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings during the 2011-12 campaign and logged a career-best 28 points.
