Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN - Leading 5-3 in the sixth inning, the Ogden Raptors (15-15) surrendered seven runs in the final four innings to drop the series opener 10-5 to the Missoula Osprey (16-12) on Saturday night.
Making just his second start of the season, Michael Boyle pitched four solid innings, striking out four while allowing just three hits and a single run on a solo home run by Isan Diaz in the third inning.
Osprey starter Bo Takahashi entered the ballgame with the third best ERA in the Pioneer League at 2.76. But the Raptors bats got to the ace with a Scott De Jong leadoff triple in the second inning and a subsequent Michael Medina sacrifice fly for his team-leading 26th RBI of the season.
Ogden then loaded the bases with no outs in the third inning, but only brought one run across the play on Willie Calhoun's bases loaded walk. All three outs recorded in the inning were strikeouts.
After Boyle left the ballgame, Missoula took the lead in the top of the fifth inning on Luke Lowery's two-run single. In the previous at-bat, Raymel Flores hit a two-out double down the right field line that appeared foul, but was ruled fair past the first base bag.
The Raptors re-took the lead in the bottom half of the frame, chasing Takahashi from the game, on Gage Green's RBI triple and Garrett Kennedy's RBI single. De Jong's sacrifice fly gave Ogden its largest lead of the game, 5-3.
Missoula grabbed the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning on Diaz' second home run of the night - a three-run shot - to go up 6-5. The Osprey tacked on two more runs in the seventh and two in the ninth to double up the Raptors, 10-5.
After allowing just six runs in 15 innings during the first three games of the homestand, the Ogden bullpen gave up nine runs in five innings on Saturday night. Offensively, De Jong's double in the seventh inning was the only hit for the Raptors after the fifth inning.
Austin Mason (1-0) earned his first win of the season and Bernardo Reyes (1-2) was tagged with the loss while Keegan Long (1) pitched the final two innings to pick up his first save.
The second game of the series will be a Sunday afternoon tilt beginning at 4:00pm MT. RHP Ivan Vieitez (0-1, 5.71) will square off with RHP Scott Schultz (1-1, 6.27).
