Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

On Sunday at Dehler Park, the Grand Junction Rockies jumped out to a 6-1 lead over the Billings Mustangs after three innings, but let it getaway in a 10-9 loss.

The Mustangs scored the winning runs in the seventh inning against Hunter Brothers who hadn't been scored on in his previous eight outings. He replaced Gavin after the Rockies righthander surrendered eight runs in 5.2 innings.

Grand Junction jumped in front with a pair in the first inning after their first three batters reached with base hits. Mylz Jones singled to start the game and after he got to second on wild pitch, Daniel Suero singled him in. Jensen Park followed with his third triple of the season.

Brantley Bell doubled home a run in the second to get the Mustangs on the board, but the Rockies put up a 4-spot in the third to make it 6-1. Suero followed Jones' triple with an RBI single, and after the Rockies loaded the bases, Chris Keck cleared them with a 2-out double, but the lead was gone in the fourth.

Billings scored five times in the inning, four coming home with two out, and they took the lead in the sixth when Dalton Carter hit a 2-run double, his second of the day, his first two of the season. The Rockies immediately got those two runs back, but Brantley Bell hit a 2-out, 2-run double to give the Mustangs the lead for good, though the Rockies made them work for it.

With 2-out in the eighth inning, Suero and Park hit back-to-back triples, but Sam Hilliard grounded out to the shortstop on a close play to end the threat. Collin Ferguson led off the ninth inning with a walk, but was thrown out trying to steal second for the game's final out.

The loss drops the Rockies to 16-15 on the season, and 3-4 on their trip through Montana.

Suero had his second four hit day of the season, while Park had three hits, and Jones collected two. The top three in the Rockies order combined for nine hits in 15 at bats, but the rest of the Rockies order went just 2-for-25.
