Great Falls Voyagers News Release
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (July 18, 2015) - Landon Lassiter drove in a career-high five and the Great Falls Voyagers scored 10 two-out runs on their way to a 13-6 rout of the Idaho Falls Chukars Saturday night at Melaleuca Field.
The Voyagers (15-11) took the lead in the very first inning as Zach Fish homered for the fourth time in the last three games, a two-run shot off of Dylan Sons (0-4) for his team-leading sixth blast of the year.
The visitors then chased Sons with a big fourth inning. The lefty gave up a single and two walks to load the bases for Frank Califano, who laced a single up the middle to make it 3-0. Lassiter followed with a two-run single, before Fish and Dante Flores added run-producing knocks with two outs to cap the five-run frame. For Fish, it was his third RBI of the night, giving him a team-leading 20 for the year.
The seven-run advantage was plenty for Great Falls starter Evin Einhardt (3-1). The righty gave up just one run on one hit in five innings, winning his third straight start.
After Idaho Falls (10-20) pulled within four on a Josh Banuelos two-run homer in the sixth, the Voyager offense exploded with two outs in the seventh. Victor Velasquez started the rally with a double, before a pair of walks loaded the bases for Lassiter. The left fielder lined a triple into the right field corner, clearing the bases and pushing his RBI total for the night to five.
The Chukars got a run closer in the seventh before Great Falls plated their final two runs of the night in the eighth, again with two outs. Sikes Orvis hit a solo homer to the opposite field for his first professional home run, and then Great Falls added another run later on an Idaho Falls error.
Idaho Falls then scored two in their half of the eighth to put an end to the night's scoring.
On the night, Great Falls scored 10 of their 13 runs with two outs, helping them end their losing skid at two, and keeping the Voyagers from losing three straight for the first time in 2015.
The Voyagers continue their four-game set with the Idaho Falls Chukars Sunday afternoon at Melaleuca Field. Great Falls will send right-hander Matt Ball (0-2 7.77) to the hill, while Idaho Falls will counter with fellow righty Todd Eaton (1-3, 8.25). First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., and coverage will begin at 3:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
