Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
IDAHO FALLS, ID - Fresh off a three-game sweep in a series against the Missoula Osprey at Melaleuca Field, the Idaho Falls Chukars were unable to increase their win streak to four against the Great Falls Voyagers by a score of 13-6 on Saturday night.
Starting in the first inning, the Chukars fell behind as Great Falls designated hitter Zach Fish hit a two-run homer against Dylan Sons (L, 0-4) to make the score 2-0. The homer was the fourth in three games for Fish.
The hot night continued for the 23-year-old, as his run-scoring single sparked a five-run fourth inning for the Voyagers. Great Falls also got a two-run single from outfielder Landon Lassiter and a RBI singles by second basemen Dante Flores and outfielder Frank Califano to go up by seven.
After the Chukars scored their only run of the game against Voyagers starter Evin Einhardt (W, 3-1) on a wild pitch in the fourth inning, they got a two-run homer by first basemen Josh Banuelos to cut their deficit to four runs. For Banuelos, his second homer of the year traveled 447 feet and allowed him to drive in two more runs to bring his league-leading total to 33.
Unfortunately for the Chukars, that's as close as they would get. In the seventh inning, a three-run triple by Lassiter and a RBI single from third basemen Johan Cruz gave the Voyagers four more runs. One inning later, Great Falls tacked on two more, a surge highlighted by a solo homer from first basemen Sikes Orvis.
From an offensive perspective, Idaho Falls got a RBI single from second basemen DJ Burt in the seventh inning as well as a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Pedro Gonzalez and a RBI single by third basemen Ryan Dale in the eighth inning.
On the pitching side, Idaho Falls got a combined 3.2 scoreless frames from lefties Tripp Davis andMatt Portland.
The loss for the Chukars snapped their season-high three game winning streak.
Idaho Falls will play game two of a four-game set against the Great Falls Voyagers to Melaleuca Field on Sunday afternoon. The Chukars will send RHP Todd Eaton to the hill while the Voyagers will counter with RHP Matt Ball. First pitch is at 4:00 PM.
