Late Comeback Fails, Huskies Lose to Waterloo 13-12

June 29, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release

The Huskies were left with a golden opportunity to move into a tie for first place. However, a 6-run 8th inning for the Waterloo Bucks was the difference maker, as the Huskies lost 13-12 at Wade Stadium.

It was an initial 5-0 Bucks lead early on, but as the theme goes, no early lead is safe at Wade Stadium. The Huskies quickly stormed back and put up 9 runs through the 7th inning to go ahead 9-7.

The Bucks answered with 6 runs of their own in the top of the 8th to pull ahead and steal a split in this two-game series.

Austin Humphries took the ball today for his first start of the season and gave up 4 earned runs in 3 innings of work. Alex Potter piggybacked Humphries and looked strong until the end, where the Bucks tagged him for 3 earned runs as part of their big 6th inning.

Strong performances from Joshua Duarte (4 hits) and Michael Hallquist (4 hits and a 3-run home run) kept them in it until the end.

The Huskies sparked a rally in the 9th and had the winning run on first base but failed to convert.

Duluth will host Eau Claire tomorrow at 6:35 PM with 3 games left in the first half.
