Lancaster Stormers News Release

Juan Apodaca went 4-for-4 while Casey Frawley and Cole Garner knocked in three runs apiece as the Lancaster Barnstormers knocked off the Long Island Ducks, 9-5, in the rain-delayed opener of a four-game series Thursday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

It was Lancaster's second consecutive win to even the second half record at 2-2.

The Barnstormers grabbed a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the second with a five-run inning off Rob Whitenack (1-2). Lance Zawadzki lofted a double into the left field corner, and Apodaca followed with a walk. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Zawadzki scored on Frawley's grounder to short. Grant Zawadzki beat out a grounder up the middle, and Fred Lewis walked to load the bases. Brett Carroll forced home the tying run with another walk. Garner crushed a long, two-run double to left to put Lancaster ahead, 4-2, and a fifth run scored on Andrew Clark's grounder.

Cory Wade held the lead through the top of the third.

At that point, heavy, wind-swirled rains struck the ballpark, causing a two-hour, 16-minute delay.

Upon resumption, the Barnstormers tacked on three more runs off reliever Bob Zimmermann. Frawley picked up the first with a booming double to left center. Lewis singled into center for a 7-2 lead, and Garner collected his third RBI of the night with another base hit into center.

Shunsuke Watanabe (3-1) threw four perfect innings and carried a 9-2 lead into the eighth when four singles and two hit batters jeopardized the game. With the score, 9-5, and the tying run coming to the plate, Lancaster went to Pete Andrelczyk. The right-hander struck out Dan Lyons and retired Fehlandt Lentini on a harmless fly to left to escape the jam.

The Ducks rebuilt off Andrelczyk in the ninth. Cody Puckett knocked out his third hit of the game, a leadoff single to left. Lew Ford drilled a base hit into right, and the Barnstormers switched to lefty Zach Braddock to face Adam Bailey.

Braddock retired three batters in a row on fly balls, nailing the game down for his first save.

The two clubs meet again on Friday evening with fireworks to follow the game. It will feature a matchup of All-Star starters Shaun Garceau (8-1) and Chris Schwinden (8-1). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
