The Skeeters took a 7-3 victory over the Patriots in the second game of the series tonight at TD Bank Ballpark. With the win in Game 2, the Skeeters are now 5-10 against the Patriots so far this season, 41-34 overall.
Steve Hammond (6.0,4,1,1,3,5) earned his sixth win of the season tonight after pitching 6.0 innings with one run allowed on four hits and five strikeouts. With the wintonight, the lefty is now 6-5 on the season and helped the team improve to a 41-34 record so far in 2014.
The first run for the Skeeters tonight came in the second inning when designated hitter Nick Stavinoha (3x4, 2 R, 2 RBI) hit his 10th home run of the season as the lead-off batter.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, second baseman Chase Lambin (1x3, R, 2 RBI) was able to reach base with a walk before right fielder Neil Medchill (1x4, R) smacked a hard-hit double that put runners on second and third. Third baseman Dominic Ramos (2x4, R, 2 RBI) then doubled to right field, which allowed both base runners to cross the plate. Ramos was then brought in on a double to right field from center fielder Michael Rockett (1x4, RBI), giving Sugar Land a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
Shortstop Taylor Harbin (1x4, R) led off the top of the eighth with a single to the third baseman. Harbin was then advanced to third on a single to left field from catcher Travis Scott (1x4, R). A double from Stavinoha then brought in Harbin for the first run of the inning. Lambin mimicked Stavinoha with a double of his own that scored both Scott and Stavinoha, giving the Skeeters a 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
Roy Corcoran (1.0,1,0,0,0,1) took over for Hammond to start the seventh inning. The right-hander pitched 1.0 inning without allowing a run on just one hit and one strikeout. Brian Broderick (1.0,0,0,0,0,2) was the next pitcher to enter the game for Sugar Land. The righty went 1.0 inning with no hits or runs given up and two strikeouts. Ben Kozlowski (0.1,3,0,0,0,0) started on the hill in the bottom of the ninth and pitched 0.1 inning and gave up two runs on four hits. Closer Gary Majewski (0.2,0,0,0,0,1) came into the game to help the Sugar Land defense preserve the win over Somerset. The righty collected his 99th career save tonight after tossing 0.2 inning without allowing a run or a hit.
