Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers offense has sprung back to life.

One night after setting a season high with 16 hits, the Barnstormers tied a franchise record with seven doubles en route to a 10-4 victory over the Long Island Ducks.

The win, Lancaster's third straight, elevated the Barnstormers into first place in the second half.

Shaun Garceau (8-2) retired the first five Barnstormers that he faced and carried the early 1-0 lead on Jon Myers' RBI double in the top of the second. His trouble started when Brock Kjeldgaard dropped a single down the right field line and stole second. Garceau hit Casey Frawley with a pitch to add a second runner. Dayton Buller dropped a base hit into shallow center to drive home the tying run, and Grant Zawadzki cracked a double through the alley into left center to drive in two more.

Long Island inched closer on the first of two Cody Puckett sacrifice flies in the third, but Kjeldgaard belted his 13th homer of the season to right in the bottom of the fourth to stretch the lead back to two.

Again, the Ducks closed the advantage to one in the top of the fifth when Puckett doubled to left off Chris Schwinden (9-1) and raced home on Lew Ford's lined single into left.

However, the Barnstormers delivered the knockout blow to Garceau in the bottom of the fifth. Lance Zawadzki doubled, stole third, and scored when Cole Garner doubled off the wall in right. Andrew Clark produced a 6-3 lead with a single to right. Kjeldgaard added a third hit, and both scored as Frawley doubled off the fence in right center.

Clark chimed in with a two-run blast to right in the seventh, and Ross Peeples closed out the game, setting down the final six Duck batters.

The third game of the series is scheduled for Saturday night at 7:00 with fireworks to follow. Lancaster will send left-hander Brandon Mann (1-2) to the hill against right-hander Jared Lansford (4-3).
