Barnstormers Rain on Ducks Parade

(Lancaster, Penn.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 9-5 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Long Island struck for two runs in the top of the first on a run-scoring groundout from Adam Bailey and a RBI infield single by Jon Myers off Lancaster starter Cory Wade. The Barnstormers responded with five runs in the second inning off Ducks starter Rob Whitenack. RBI groundouts by Casey Frawley and Andrew Clark, a bases loaded walk to Brett Carroll and a two-run double from Cole Garner did the damage.

Following a two hour and 18 minute rain delay, Lancaster added three more runs in the third on a RBI double by Frawley and run-scoring singles from Fred Lewis and Garner. After a sac fly by Frawley in the sixth, the Ducks rallied for three runs in the eighth. Bases loaded hit by pitches of Joash Brodin and Jan Vazquez, along with a RBI single by Myers, highlighted the frame, but the Ducks could not pull even.

Shunsuke Watanabe (3-1) received the win in relief, tossing four and one-third innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out two. Whitenack (1-2) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on four hits and five walks in two innings. Zack Braddock earned his first save with a scoreless ninth.

Cody Puckett led the Flock with three hits and two runs, while Myers added two hits and two RBI.
