Asheville Tourists News Release
GREENSBORO, NC-- Over the course of a 140 game season, tough losses occur. The test is how teams respond after suffering a loss like the Asheville Tourists endured on Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon, the Tourists passed that test with a convincing 5-2 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
Peter Lambert was tremendous in his five innings of work. The San Dimas, California native held the Grasshoppers without a run on one hit allowed. Lambert struck out six en route to his third victory of the season. Drasen Johnson came in from the bullpen and continued the pitching dominance. Johnson worked three scoreless innings and scattered two hits.
Offensively, the Tourists jumped out to a quick start against Greensboro's Jordan Holloway. Carlos Herrera, batting lead-off for the first time this season, began the ballgame with a double off the center field wall. Brendan Rodgers followed with a single to put two runners aboard for Brian Mundell. Asheville's first baseman cranked a payoff pitch over the left field wall for a three-run Home Run. The long ball was Mundell's fourth of the year.
Asheville continued to put runners aboard during the game's early innings. They cashed in once more in the fourth when Herrera singled in Chris Rabago and Scotty Burcham. Herrera is 5-for-his-last-9 at the plate with a Home Run, a double, and a triple.
The score remained 5-0 up to the bottom of the ninth. Kelvin Franco entered for the Tourists but quickly surrendered two runs. Warren Schaeffer elected to bring in Salvador Justo and the right-hander recorded the final two outs uncontested.
The Tourists finished their seven-game road trip with only two wins but head home to play a four-game series against Columbia beginning on Thursday. Following the Columbia series is the All-Star Break where each team's record resets. Thursday's game will begin at 7:05pm.
