SALISBURY, MD - After beginning their homestand last Thursday with a walk-off win, the Delmarva Shorebirds made sure to end it in similar fashion. Ryan Mountcastle's single in the 11th inning clinched a 4-3 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Wednesday night.

The win wrapped up a 6-1 homestand for the 'Birds, as they improved to 38-26 and kept pace with the Hagerstown Suns in the South Atlantic League Northern Division race.

Delmarva only scored runs in the first and final innings, as Yermin Mercedes's three-run homer gave the 'Birds a quick 3-0 advantage over Kannapolis (23-43). Mercedes boasts a .462 (18-for-39) average in nine games against the Intimidators after going 2-for-5 tonight.

Brian Gonzalez also got off to a quick start with three scoreless innings, but the Intimidators chipped away at the lead with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to tie the game.

The drama built all night, as the Shorebirds had multiple runners reach scoring position in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but could not score the go-ahead run.

Ryan Meisinger turned in another all-star performance out of the bullpen, as he threw three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Elias Pinales earned the win to improve his record to 3-0.

The bottom of the 11th began with Ademar Rifaela earning an infield single and moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ricardo Andujar. Mountcastle then came through with a two-out single to right. Rifaela then barely beat the throw home to give Delmarva their fifth walk-off win of the season. Mountcastle ended the homestand hitting .444 (12-for-27) with two home runs and six RBIs.

The 'Birds hit the road for one last series before the all-star break, a five-game set in Hickory. The Shorebirds will enter Friday two games out of first place. Reid Love (4-3, 3.30) will be on the hill for Delmarva in this critical game. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
