AUGUSTA, Ga. - Carson Hoskins' favorite part about the Augusta GreenJackets 2016 Scout Night was running the bases at Lake Olmstead Stadium in his Cub Scout uniform.

"It made me feel like a real baseball player," said Hoskins, 7, a Wolf with Cub Scout Pack 119 at Martinez United Methodist Church. "I love baseball and Scouts."

Hoskins was one of 221 boys 11- to 18-years-old in the Augusta area to participate in the GreenJackets' annual Scout Night this month at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

As part of the event, local Scouts received a commemorative patch, led the opening flag ceremony, participated in a pre-game parade around the stadium and camped out on the field after watching the GreenJackets beat the West Virginia Power 3-1.

A portion of the game's ticket sales benefited local Scouting, which Hoskins' mother, Erin Hoskins, said has been a blessing for her son.

"Scouts have really helped him come out of his shell and become a happy, well-rounded little boy," Erin Hoskins said of her son, Carson, who was diagnosed with a mild form of Asperger's. "We are beyond grateful to have had this happen."

Tom Denlinger, GreenJackets' general manager, said this year's Scout night was "one of the most successful in recent memory."

"The Scout Night Sleepover is a staple in minor league baseball and the GreenJackets are excited our Scouts were able to join us for a fun night," Denlinger said. "We look forward to continuing to grow this event."
