Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
CHARLESTON, WV - The Lakewood BlueClaws won their 4th consecutive game with a decisive 11-6 win over the West Virginia Power on Saturday night. The BlueClaws pounded out 14 hits as a team, and are now 4-1 on their current 7 game road trip. After dropping a season high 5 straight games, the BlueClaws have bounced back big time with this season long 4 game winning streak and are now 20-22 on the year.
The Opening Day Starter for Lakewood this year Mario Holland got the start Saturday and pitched well picking up his 3rd win of the year. Hollands went 5 innings, allowed 6 hits, 4 runs only 2 of which were earned and walked 2 while striking out 7. His defense made 2 errors behind him, but overall Hollands did a nice job navigating his way through the WV lineup to even up his record on the year at 3-3. Jake Borup made his 2nd appearance of the year for Lakewood since being activated from the Disabled List, and Chase Johnson and Jay Johnson also pitched in relief for Lakewood. Borup and C. Johnson each allowed 1 run, and J. Johnson pitched a scoreless 1 2/3rd innings to close out the ballgame for the BlueClaws.
Offense was the story of the night however as Lakewood collected 14 hits and scored 11 runs off of Power pitching. Lakewood scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back. All 9 starters except Jim Murphy and Edgar Duran had at least 1 hit, and 5 guys had multi-hit ballgames for Lakewood. Miguel Alavarez and Domingo Santana were each 3-5 in the game, with Alvarez scoring 3 times and Santana driving in a pair of runs on 2 doubles and a triple.
Alan Schoenberger was back in the leadoff spot for Lakewood and he turned in one heck of a performance Saturday. Schoenberger was 2-3 in the game, and was also hit by 2 pitches. He doubled, tripled, stole a base, drove in 3 runs, and scored 3 times. You can't ask for much more from your leadoff hitter than that. Zach Collier and Cameron Rupp each chipped in with 2 base hits of their own for the BlueClaws.
Lakewood will try to make it 5 straight wins Sunday as they will send out their ace RHP David Buchanan (5-2, 2.29 ERA). The Power will trot out LHP Zachary Fuesser (1-0, 1.73 ERA) for game 3 of the 4 game series on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 ET.
