
Intimidators unleash season-high 16 runs on Shorebirds

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators unleashed an offensive explosion with a season-high 16 runs in a 16-6 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Saturday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Trayce Thompson and Brady Shoemaker combined to go 6-for-8 with 8 RBI, 5 runs and 3 homeruns between the two of them.
Shoemaker capped a five-run first inning with a three-run homer (2) to make it 5-0 with no outs. Kannapolis was aided by three walks from Shorebirds starter Jarret Martin. Martin (2-2) took the loss in 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with six walks.
Thompson added a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning, making it 7-0. Kannapolis kept the hits coming against reliever Tim Adleman, as Thompson and Shoemaker knocked solo homeruns in the fourth inning, and John Spatola added an RBI-single for a 10-0 lead.
The Intimidators started the fifth inning with four straight singles, and Juan Silverio knocked a three-run double, and Kyle Eveland tacked on a two-run double in a six-run inning, chasing Adleman from the game and taking a 16-2 lead.
Brenden Webb put Delmarva on the board in the top of the fifth with a two-run homerun. Two innings later, the Shorebirds chased Intimidators starter Matt Heidenreich from the game with a three-run seventh. Heidenreich (4-1) picked up the win, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits and kept the Shorebirds off the scoreboard for the first four innings while the Intimidators offense put the game out of reach.
The Intimidators and Shorebirds continue the four-game series on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. as LHP Spencer Arroyo (2-1, 3.40) takes the mound for Kannapolis against Delmarva's LHP Jacob Pettit (4-0, 3.74). Sunday's are Kids Day presented by Zammitti Orthodontics with pre-game player autographs and post-game kids run the bases. Kids can also play Dave & Busters ballpark games at the stadium.
