PREVIEW: The Shorebirds aim to secure at least a series split in game two against Kannapolis. Luis Noel tossed seven solid innings and Ashur Tolliver struck out six in the final two innings to lift the Shorebirds to a 7-1 win in game one. Hagerstown also lost last night to pull the Shorebirds within 3.5 games of first place with 28 games left in the first half.

.392: Kipp Schutz jumped his batting average 11 points last night with a 3-for-4 day. He now leads the league with a .392 mark. Schutz has five multi-hit games in his last seven. Through 15 games in the month of May, Schutz is hitting .426 (26-61). Schutz has hit safely in 31 of 35 games this season. He achieved a new career high with three doubles last night.

WITHOUT MACHADO: The Shorebirds will play their 16th straight game without 3rd overall pick Manny Machado, who injured his left knee on May 5 against Asheville. The Shorebirds are 8-7 without Machado.

13-GAME ON BASE: Mike Flacco has reached base in 13 straight games dating back to May 7. He takes a six-game hit streak into action tonight (12-22, .545). Flacco tied his season high with four RBIs last night. His batting average has jumped from .231 to .297 during the six-game hit streak.

UP AND DOWN THE ORDER: Ty Kelly has batted in just about every spot in the Shorebirds order this season. The only spots he has not hit are fourth and ninth. Kelly has batted in the second spot 13 times. Here is a look at the (spots) in the order and the amount of times he has hit there: (7) 5, (2) 13, (1) 4, (8) 1, (6) 2, (5) 1, (3) 1.

10 OUTFIELD ASSISTS: Brenden Webb recorded his 10th outfield assist of the season last night, most in the SAL. He gunned down Kyle Eveland at the plate in the third inning. For perspective, Kannapolis has only 11 outfield assists combined this year.
