Lakeland, Fla. - Recently, the Lakeland Magic, the NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, and the City of Lakeland Wastewater Utilities announced a new partnership to help recognize and bring awareness to the C.O.R.E. program.

C.O.R.E. stands for Cooking Oil Recycling Effort. This city-wide campaign is meant to bring awareness to the importance of not disposing oils down the drain. Oil, specifically cooking oil, solidifies as it cools. When this happens within the wastewater pipes, it causes blockages. C.O.R.E.'s objective is to address a growing number of sanitary sewer overflows caused by grease blockages throughout the City's wastewater collection system. These overflows pose a risk to the environment and human health. "The Lakeland Magic enthusiastically partnered with us to help educate our community on the negative effects of oil in our wastewater collection system," said Nicole Barber, the Community Engagement Coordinator with the City of Lakeland Wastewater Utilities.

Magic Fans can exchange containers filled with used fats, cooking oil, or grease to receive a $5 ticket offer at the Lakeland Magic Box Office on Saturday, February 11. For more information on the C.O.R.E. program and to find drop-off locations, please visit lakelandgov.net/core.
