Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - Johnny Sewald and Drew Ferguson each had three-hit games, but the Tri-City ValleyCats fell to the Vermont Lake Monsters 9-2 at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, on Thursday night.
The 'Cats were able to take an early lead, as Sewald scored runs in the first and third innings, helping Tri-City take a 2-0 lead heading into the fourth.
Unfortunately, the Lake Monsters scored four times in the top of the fourth, when Vermont right fielder Seth Brown hit a three-run triple, then scored on a wild pitch.
The ValleyCats did put up a fight offensively, as they registered 12 hits over the course of the game, highlighted by Sewald going 3-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base, Ferguson going 3-4 as well, and Cesar Carrasco (2-4 with an RBI), and Brooks Marlow (2-5) also registering multi-hit games.
However, after Sewald's second run, Tri-City was shut out for the rest of the game, while Vermont went on to score a total of nine unanswered runs.
The two teams will return to "The Joe" tomorrow for the final game of this three-game set. On the mound for the ValleyCats will be RHP Kevin McCanna (0-0, 7.20), with RHP Dustin Driver (0-1, 2.70) getting the start for the Lake Monsters.
The game, which will have a first pitch of 6:30 p.m., will be Red, White and Blue Glow in the Park Night, presented by Dave & Busters, and will be followed by postgame fireworks, presented by Price Chopper.
