Iowa Cubs News Release
Des Moines, IA - Iowa Cubs' All-Star first basemen Bryan LaHair has been named as one of six participants in the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby, presented by Papa John's. The Home Run Derby will take place on Monday, July 11th at 8 p.m. CDT at Spring Mobile Park, home of the Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League.
Trayvon Robinson of Albuqerque and Jeff Baisley of Salt Lake are the other two participants for the PCL. Representing the International League will be Jorge Vazquez of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Stefan Gartrell of Gwinnett, and Dayan Viciedo of Charlotte.
LaHair's league-leading 24th home run came last night as a pinch hitter with two outs in the ninth and accounted for the Cubs' only runs of the game in a 3-2 loss at Oklahoma City. LaHair currently ranks second in all of Minor League Baseball with his 24 homers. Through 81 games this year, he is on pace to easily eclipse his career-high total of 26, which he set in 2009 in 121 games with the Tacoma Rainiers.
LaHair is averaging a home run every 12.04 at-bats, which is third in the league. He leads the PCL in total bases with 201, and is ranked second in RBI (70) and extra base-hits (49). He is third in hits (104) and slugging percentage (.696). He also leads the league with six intentional walks. His .360 batting average is good for sixth in the PCL. Additionally, LaHair leads the I-Cubs in games played, at-bats, runs, and doubles.
Joining LaHair on Wednesday for the All-Star game will be teammates John Gaub and Welington Castillo. That game is slated to begin at 8 p.m. CDT and will be broadcasted live on the MLB Network.
