ROUND ROCK, Texas - Julio Borbon's fourth-inning, tie-breaking RBI single propelled the Round Rock Express to a 6-4 victory over the Memphis Redbirds in Thursday night's Pacific Coast League series opener at The Dell Diamond. The Express (51-36) improved to 12-0 this season following consecutive losses. The Redbirds (46-41) have lost three of four.

Round Rock trailed 2-0 after consecutive solo homers from Andrew Brown and Matt Carpenter to open the second inning. However, the Express tied the game in the third on consecutive two-out RBI hits from Esteban German and Chad Tracy. Omar Quintanilla followed Borbon's RBI single in the fourth with one of his own, and the Express never relinquished the lead.

Tracy tacked on an RBI double in the seventh, which proved to be the game-deciding hit; he later scored on Joey Butler's RBI single. Carpenter belted a two-run homer in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Meanwhile, Eric Hurley (2-0) earned the win, going 6.0 innings with three strikeouts. He walked three and scattered five hits, allowing only the two solo homers. Zach Phillips worked around a two-out single and struck out two in a scoreless seventh. Pedro Strop pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.

Memphis starter Brian Broderick (2-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on 10 hits over 5.0 innings. He walked one and struck out three.

Borbon and German both had three-hit games and both swiped two bases. Butler, Tracy and Brad Nelson tallied two hits each. Tracy had two doubles and two RBI. Every Express starter hit safely save Matt Kata, who was 0-for-4 and snapped an 11-game hitting streak.

Carpenter was 2-for-2 with two walks and three RBI. Adron Chambers had two hits.

Round Rock and Memphis continue their four-game series Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch. Southpaw Zach Jackson (6-2, 5.61 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, who are 11-4 in Jackson's starts. The Redbirds have not yet announced a starter.

TRANSACTIONS: Doug Deeds (thumb) was placed on the seven-day disabled list prior to the game.
