LA Galaxy Launch Galaxy Discovery Program
April 6, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy announced today the launch of the Galaxy Discovery Program (GDP), a free, exclusive, immersive and supplemental youth training program that will extend the pipeline to the LA Galaxy Academy by actively identifying, cultivating and elevating youth players that are dedicated to succeeding in their soccer career and with the LA Galaxy.
Players (boys and girls) must be between the ages of 8-16 and invited to the program by the LA Galaxy. A player can be identified through an LA Galaxy Youth Camp (multi-day, specialized training) or a free GDP assessment session (90-minute opportunity for players to showcase their individual abilities). If a player is identified, an LA Galaxy staff member will contact the player and officially invite them to join the next GDP cohort.
Through the GDP, players receive free high-caliber instruction in an unrivalled professional training environment. The GDP is not intended to take the place of a player's current youth club and will be used as a supplemental training to advance a player's soccer skills and passion to succeed both on and off the field.
GDP trainings will take place at Dignity Health Sports Park (outside fields) for six Fridays in a row from 6-8 p.m. PT. The first-ever GDP cohort will run from May 7 to June 11. Additional cohorts will be announced throughout the year.
Additional GDP Benefits
Direct interaction with the LA Galaxy Academy staff
Access to exclusive GDP gear
Additional access to LA Galaxy resources
On and off-field camaraderie across GDP cohorts
Continued post-program interaction with the LA Galaxy
Upcoming GDP Free Assessment Session
Friday, April 23
6-7:30 p.m. PT: 8-11 years old
7:30-9 p.m. PT: 12-16 years old
Apply for the first free assessment session here.
The free assessment session is a 90-minute opportunity for players to showcase their individual abilities, through technical and tactical exercises, in front of the LA Galaxy Youth Staff. If identified at an assessment session, the LA Galaxy will contact the player and invite them to take part in the free GDP.
The LA Galaxy's 2021 MLS Regular Season home opener is set for Sunday, April 25 at 2:30 p.m. PT at Dignity Health Sports Park against New York Red Bulls live on FS1. The club will return to MLS action on Sunday, April 18 against Inter Miami CF at Inter Miami CF Stadium at 12 p.m. PT live on ABC and ESPN Deportes.
