LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has acquired 26-year-old midfielder Favio Alvarez on loan from Atlético Tucumán in Argentina's Primera División. Alvarez will occupy an International Roster Spot and join the LA Galaxy's roster pending receipt of his P1-Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). He was acquired through the use of Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).
"Favio is a talented and dynamic attacking player who will be a valuable addition to our roster," said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. "He has a versatile skillset that will allow him to play multiple positions in our attack. We think he can be a dangerous option for our club this season and we look forward to adding him to the team."
Alvarez, an attacking midfielder who can play as a forward, began his professional career in 2010 with Talleres de Cordoba, making his debut on February 14 against Gimnasia y Esgrima. During the 2012-13 season, Alvarez helped lead his team to the Torneo Argentino A Championship title, earning promotion to the Primera B Nacional, which is the second division of the Argentine soccer system. During his time with Talleres, Alvarez went on to make 88 appearances and scored 10 goals. The attacking midfielder also played for Defensa y Justicia and Sarmiento de JunÃn before completing his move to Atlético Tucamán on August 29, 2016.
Since joining Atlético Tucamán, Alvarez has made 56 appearances and scored five goals in all competition. In all, Alvarez has featured in competitions across Argentina's Primera Division, Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana during his time with the club.
The LA Galaxy are in action next this Wednesday, May 8 when they face Columbus Crew SC on the road at MAPFRE Stadium live on Spectrum SportsNet.
