WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 28, 2010 - Sacramento River Cats starting pitcher Kyle Middleton was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 21-27, League officials announced Monday. This marks the first time a River Cats player has won the weekly award this season.

The 29-year-old right-hander made two starts during the week, finishing 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 14.0 innings pitched. On Monday, June 21, Middleton allowed five hits over 8.0 scoreless innings as the River Cats topped the Salt Lake Bees. He followed that performance by throwing 20 consecutive strikes to begin the game on June 26 against Tacoma, extending his streak to 21.0 scoreless innings before giving up a two-run home run to Rainiers center fielder Greg Halman in the fourth. For his second win of the week he allowed two unearned runs over 6.0 innings and striking out six. Overall this season, Middleton is 5-5 with a team-best 2.45 ERA among starters in 16 games, including relief appearances.

Middleton, a native of Pensacola, Florida, is in his 11th professional season and his first with the River Cats. He was signed by Oakland out of Pensacola in the Independent American Association in July of 2009 and finished playing the remainder of the 2009 season with Midland (Double-A affiliate).
