Reno Aces News Release

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - A pair of solo home runs and a solid start by starter Kevin Mulvey gave Reno a lead for much of the evening, but a three-run Salt Lake sixth inning was enough to push the Bees past the Aces, 5-3, Monday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

After Salt Lake jumped on the board with a run in the first, the Aces answered with solo home runs by Drew Macias and Yunesky Sanchez and a run-scoring single off the bat of Pedro Ciriaco to take a 3-1 lead.

The game would stay that way until the sixth, when the Bees pushed across three runs with two outs in the frame. Salt Lake added an insurance run in the seventh and never looked back, taking a 3-0 lead in the series.

Mulvey did not figure into the decision on Monday, scattering two runs on three hits over five innings of work. Luis Ayala (1-7) spelled Mulvey in the sixth and ultimately took the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits in an inning of work.

The win went to Salt Lake starter Tim Kiely (1-2), the first of his Triple-A career. Kiely scattered three runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings of work. Rich Thompson slammed the door in the ninth for his second save.

At the dish for Reno, Sanchez continued his torrid spell with two hits-including the fifth-inning homer. Six of the Aces' nine starters recorded at least one hit on the night.

The Aces and Bees wrap-up the series on Tuesday night from Spring Mobile Ballpark. RHP Cesar Valdez (1-3, 4.55 ERA) will take the ball for Reno, while RHP Tommy Mendoza (0-1, 5.51 ERA) gets the start for Salt Lake. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. PT.

The Aces return home on the Fourth of July to begin a four-game set with the Sacramento River Cats.
