Kory Karlander Scores Overtime Game-Winner

November 26, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- Stagnate for two and a half periods, the Kalamazoo Wings came alive at the right time scoring two late goals, including an overtime game-winner to secure a 2-1 victory over the Florida Everblades.

While neither team was able to score in the opening period, the K-Wings did have one goal disallowed. Trying to finish off an odd-man rush, Eric Kattelus kicked the puck past John Muse, to force the apparent goal off the scoreboard. Generating a majority of the scoring chances, Kalamazoo outshot Florida 16-6 in the opening 20 minutes.

For the second straight night the fans of Wings Stadium would be treated to the most exciting play in sports, a penalty shot, and for the second straight game a goaltender kept the puck out of the net. Taken down on a breakaway, Florida's Matt Beca, received a penalty shot. On the ensuing shot, Beca's wrister bounced off the pipe keeping the game scoreless.

Finally ending the gridlock midway through the second period, Mike McKenzie (3rd) gave the Everblades the lead with a wrap-around tally.

Pulling even 13:39 into the third period, Justin Taylor notched his seventh goal of the season and third on a power-play on a slap shot from the slot.

Striking late in overtime, Steven Anthony's centering pass found a wide-open Kory Karlander (5th) in the slot for the game-winner, which snapped a K-Wings' season-high three-game winless streak (0-2-0-1)

Maxime Clermont (2-1-0-0) earned his second consecutive win making 27 saves in the victory, while Muse (4-3-1-1) had 38 saves in the loss.

Kalamazoo's victory also snapped Florida's three-game overall winning streak, as well as their four-game road win streak.
